The Harvard Study
A new study, just released by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, found that diets higher in foods known to contribute to chronic inflammation can increase a person’s risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
The study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, followed over 200,000 subjects for several decades.
The results showed that pro-inflammatory foods, such as processed and red meat, refined sugars and grains, fried foods, and sugary sodas, “were associated with a markedly augmented cardiovascular risk.”
Meanwhile, subjects whose diet was more centred around anti-inflammatory foods, such as whole grains, tea, coffee, green leafy vegetables, and yellow vegetables, had less of a chance of developing heart disease or having a stroke.
And the results were stark.
Those people eating a pro-inflammatory diet had a 28 percent greater risk of stroke and a 46 percent greater risk of heart disease.
Chronic inflammation is a critical factor in the development of many diseases, not just heart disease and stroke.
Diabetes, cancer, depression, cognitive decline, and Alzheimer’s disease are all linked to chronic inflammation.
The Ohio State Study
A separate study by Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, looked into how avocado consumption can help the body absorb nutrients to a greater extent.
The results showed that the type of fat in avocados helped the body absorb 12 times as much vitamin A from carrots than when the carrots were eaten alone!
Similar results were also found when tomatoes were consumed, and not only did it increase the conversion of vitamin A, but it also sped the process up, making it over 5 times as fast!
The research team says that the fat from the avocado plays three key roles when interacting with provitamin A substances.
First, the fat helps the provitamin to be absorbed during digestion, then it helps form a package around it for its journey to the liver. Finally, it assists in converting the provitamin A to active vitamin A immediately after absorption.
What it all means
To sum it up, the Ohio State research proved that avocado oil helps you to absorb vitamin A faster and more effectively.
This is good for you because vitamin A helps fight chronic inflammatory conditions which the Harvard team proved leads to things like heart disease and stroke.
So, to lower your risk of serious illness and possible death, eat avocados!
