We’ve talked before about the extraordinary health benefits of avocado oil, and why it’s one of the best cooking oils you can use, but what makes this special fruit so different?
In this post, we break down the incredible components of avocados, their health benefits, and how our pioneering cold extraction process helps keep the goodness intact when turning fruit to oil.
So what makes avocado oil different?
Avocados are quite unique when it comes to cooking oils.
Most plant oils are extracted from the seed of the plant, but avocado oil is extracted from the flesh of the avocado, which is densely packed with around 20 minerals and vitamins.
This allows all the taste and the nutrients to be retained during the process, resulting in a delicious, healthy cooking oil.
The nutritional make-up of avocado oil
Avocados are one of the fattiest foods out there – but in a good way!
Fats come in three main types; monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated. The ratio of these fats determine whether an oil is healthy or harmful, and 70% of avocado oil is a monounsaturated, omega-9 fatty acid – the “good” kind of fat.
An avocado contains more potassium than a banana, more protein than any other fruit, and half the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin K, and a third of Vitamin C.
On top of this, avocado and its oil may improve the absorption of other foods that we eat.
What are the health benefits of avocado oil?
Where do we even start with the proven health benefits of avocado oil?
Studies have shown a myriad of improvements, from helping with diabetes to lowering the risk of heart-attacks.
Lowers blood pressure
Studies have shown avocado oil lowers blood pressure, mainly due to their high potassium content.
Potassium regulates your heartbeat, keeps muscles strong and nerves working. Combine that with a healthier heart, and a decrease in blood pressure is practically assured.
Lowers cholesterol
Olive oil is hailed as the reason people of the Mediterranean live longer and suffer fewer heart-attacks, but avocado oil has been proven to have the same effect in lowering cholesterol.
The higher concentration of healthy fats also helps with a number of other coronary risk factors, including blood clot formation, in vitro LDL oxidative susceptibility, and insulin sensitivity.
Helps with arthritis
According to the Journal of Rheumatology, avocados can help with arthritic pain. It is thought the oil helps to block the production of pro-inflammatory chemicals, helping the breakdown of cartilage and promoting repair.
Promotes healthier skin and hair
Vitamin E is an antioxidant essential for maintaining healthy hair, and avocados are packed with it. Your hair retains more moisture with Vitamin E, making it thicker and shinier, and also protects it from environmental factors.
Avocado oil is also high in lutein, a carotenoid found in vegetables like carrots, spinach, and kale. This is great for your skin, acting as a natural anti-aging nutrient, strengthening the capillary walls, and improving moisture and elasticity.
The best avocado oil you can buy
Olivado now offer a range of delicious, healthy oils, but our original purpose was to create the very best avocado oil and bring it to the world.
To do this, we pioneered the cold extraction technique, which is now used throughout the industry all over the world.
Our cold-pressed extraction process is similar to the traditional method, however there is one key difference; the temperature.
We are very careful never to let the temperature of the process rise above 50 degrees Celsius. By doing this, the oil produced will retain all the health properties of the avocado fruit.
By using minimum heat and no chemicals, the extra-virgin avocado oil retains more of its original properties, including its delicious avocado flavour.
Cold-pressed avocado oil is a beautiful emerald green when extracted. This colour comes from the elevated levels of chlorophylls and carotenoids in the oil, which would otherwise be lost at higher temperatures. It also has a higher smoking point, making it suitable to fry, bake, stir-fry, deep-fry, sear, barbecue, roast and sauté.
Avocado oil is only as good from the avocados it’s made from, and Olivado’s avocados are of the highest quality, both rich in nutrients and taste.
